Hello, I'm Sheila Sky Kasselman.
When I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in October 2007, I was
surprised to learn that there was no test for early detection of this
terrible disease. And yet, pancreatic cancer spreads rapidly and
silently. It is seldom detected in an early phase, making it a leading
cause of cancer death with only five percent of diagnosed patients living five years after discovery. In my case, the disease was diagnosed early.
My doctors are so encouraged by my response to treatment that they
asked me to transition from patient to partner and join them in the
fight against pancreatic cancer. Now it is my privilege to create the Sky Foundation, Inc.
to fund research to discover a blood test for pancreatic cancer. This
work is critical because in the world of cancer research it is
charitable dollars targeted to pancreatic cancer that will help attract
top scientific research in this field.
I ask you to join me in the mission to save lives through early detection of pancreatic cancer.
With your support we can.

The Sky Foundation's goal is to raise $500,000 which will allow
vital research to be focused on pancreatic cancer this year. The funds
raised through our early efforts will remain in southeast Michigan and
will be placed in the Sky Foundation Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund at
the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute. The initial money raised
will be directed to funding research through the partnership between
the researchers and physicians of the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer
Institute and the Henry Ford Health System.
Future fundraising efforts may expand beyond research in
southeast Michigan. Our accomplished medical, legal and financial
professionals will volunteer their expertise on the Sky Foundation
Board of Directors. The Sky Foundation is honored to have the depth and
dedication of such a diverse Board of Directors and Advisory Board.
