Bloomfield Hills woman raises awareness of pancreatic cancer after husband’s death
Suburban Detroiter Bluma Schechter hosted Sky Foundation’s annual Women’s Event in her Bloomfield Hills home. The private event brought together women from across the metro Detroit area, most of whom had lost a loved one to pancreatic cancer. Schechter lost her husband, Robert, to the disease.
Diane Simeone, from the University of Michigan and Teri Brentnall, from the University of Washington, discussed their pancreatic cancer research as part of a dinner presentation. Nancie Petrucelli, of Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit, talked about the importance of genetic counseling for those with a history of the disease in their families.
Ninety-five women were in attendance; the Oakland Press covered the event.
