Governing Board

Sky’s governing board sets policy, approves spending and award seed grants. The board members are business, medical and legal professionals who serve two-year terms without compensation. Many have lost a family member to pancreatic cancer.



Bruce Gershenson

Bruce Gershenson founded Gershenson Reality & Investment in 2001.  He is a recognized expert in commercial retail development, with a proven record of accomplishment in site selection, planning, acquisition and renovation.  As President and Chief Operating Officer of the company, he is involved in all aspects of the business.



Sheila Sky Kasselman


Sheila Sky Kasselman was diagnosed with early stage pancreatic cancer in 2007. She underwent chemotherapy, radiation and a complete Whipple surgery. Six months into recovery she began Sky Foundation, Inc. with her mission to raise awareness and fund early detection research for pancreatic cancer. Prior to starting Sky Foundation, Sheila had a long career in the insurance industry and owned a financial services company.

Mary Beth is the owner of M.B. Castorri Productions, an advertising firm that produces videos for clients in Michigan and nationwide. She previously operated Castorri & Company with her late husband.

David is a physician with more than three decades of experience in group practice. He holds an appointment as clinical assistant professor at Wayne State School of Medicine in Detroit.

Christine is an accomplished weaver and pro bono textile historian at Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Mich., where she also coordinates the activities in Greenfield Village’s weaving shop. She has spent her career in museum services, scientific research, writing and editing.

Henry is an attorney with the law firm Howard and Howard where he focuses on business law, estate planning and tax law. He is chairman of the estate planning section of the business and corporate group at the firm.

Scott Moore

Scott is an attorney, certified mediator, and past mayor of Birmingham, Mich. A former teacher, he previously served on the American Baptist Churches USA general board and was president of educational ministries for the denomination.

Janice Steinhardt

Janice is the owner of MDG Design, a kitchen and interior design firm in Birmingham, Mich. She also serves on the Cranbrook Art Academy board, an advisory board at the Detroit Institute of Arts and is a member of the Jewish Women’s Foundation in Detroit.
